TKO 502VNG-BK-100 Vinyl 100 lb Heavy Bag Boxing Set Review

TKO 502VNG-BK-100 Vinyl 100 lb Heavy Bag Boxing SetThis TKO "Vinyl 100 lb Heavy Bag" is a fairly good choice for those who want\need a decent 100 lb bag at a reasonable price.
We use this bag for TaeKwonDo kicking and punching techniques, mounted on a Century Heavy Bag / Speed Bag Stand. Here are my observations:

Pros -
+ Inexpensive; a good value for a larger heavy bag

Cons -
+ Vinyl Bag; while the top of the bag has held up well to punching, the middle and lower sections have developed several rips that we had to cover with "duct tape"
+ Dead Weight; this bag has very little give or padding, so you will want to wear gloves and wrapped wrists for support

This is a good starter heavy bag but I will likely replace it with one that has more padding some time in the future when the surface is more duct tape than the original vinyl.

Powerline Wavemaster Freestanding Heavy Bag Review

Powerline Wavemaster Freestanding Heavy BagFor a lightweight bag this started out ok. I could live with the fact that it tended to slide across my garage floor (incentive to keep moving I expect...) Unfortunately, after only a few months of use, when kicking the bag now falls to the lowest setting. If you are going to spend the money, buy the full-sized wavemaster, not the one with the adjustable height.

Muay Thai Heavy Punching And Kicking Bag-unfilled (empty) Review

Muay Thai Heavy Punching And Kicking Bag-unfilledthis bag was the least expensive leather bag I found, it comes with the hanging chains and a swivel. The bag shipped the following business day via Fedex ground from NJ. In order to fill the bag I visited a local thrift store and asked for non salable clothes that would be sent to a shredder for recycling, I filled four contractor style garbage bags with clothes brought it home and laundered everything after that I cut the clothes into 4" strips and removed all buttons and zippers to prevent from damaging the bag. Finally I filled the bag by throwing a arm full of scraps at a time and pressing it down as tightly as possible with a broom stick, the filling process took about 3 hours and caused me to have three nice blisters.

Product Description:
This Muay Thai Heavy Bag is empty when shipped to you. It costs a lot less for shipping. You must fill it before use.Made in split leather, and double stitched reinforcement with nylon web chain mounts for hanging. Classic construction, retains shape, provides a very firm target for punching and kicking and gives very little swinging for movement, even from big time hitters. When properly filled it weighs approximately 110 lbs. If you fill it with scrap clothing and cotton material. If you use some other filler sand combination of materials it will weigh more or less. You decide what you want to fill it with for weight proportion. The bag hangs from your Ceiling and it's a whopping 72 inches tall X 13 inches round in all black leather materials.

Century Original Hydrocore Wave Bags Review

Century Original Hydrocore Wave BagsAfter going through a cheaper bag (all the sand and filling settled on the bottom making it dangerously solid) I went on the hunt for something else. I'm about 270, and I needed a big bag that could stand up to both punches and kicks. This seemed to fit the bill, but I never worked out on a water bag. I gambled and got this through Amazon (via Sportsmans guide). It's a VERY simple design, and I honestly can't see how it would ever break down. The "core" is a big heavy gauge plastic cylinder with a screw top; it's about the size of a small scuba tank. There is one layer of very dense uniform foam around this, and that's it. The cover is a little slick, but it too looks bombproof. Word to the wise: IF YOU GET A BAG LIKE THIS, DON'T FILL THE CORE TO THE VERY TIPPY TOP, WHEN YOU STRIKE THE BAG THE CORE COMPRESSES AND THE WATER HAS NO PLACE TO GO AND YOU COULD CONCEIVABLY CAUSE A RUPTURE. You only have to leave three inches or so to guarantee no problem. As far as working out on it, I like it. It is a little different from a traditional bag. Whereas a traditional bag feels more like "dead" weight, this bag has quite a bit of "life" to it. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but different. The best part of this bag is knowing that each impact is a little less jarring and virtually any spot you hit the bag (with the exception of the very top and very bottom) has uniform resistance. All in all, I expect this to be the last heavy bag I'll ever need to own, there will always be others in the gym though ;-) {{this review is for the 120lb XL, but the 80?lb L is identical in design}}

Century Heavy Bag / Speed Bag Stand Review

Century Heavy Bag / Speed Bag StandThe Heavy Bag/Speed Bag stand is a good piece of equipment. The heavy bag part of it definitely requires add'l weight (hint: bags of sand are much cheaper than the amount of barbell plates you'll need to keep this thing from moving - I use 200 pounds of bags of sand to keep it in place.I was able to get these for about $2.50 a piece from Home Depot. Also be sure you get a double end heavy bag too (i.e. one with a bottom D-ring), otherwise you'll get too much bag swing.Try to get a heavy bag with a foam liner. Some of the cheaper bags are like punching a rock, which won't do wonders for your workout enthusiasm.

You can also put a true double end light bag on this portion of the unit, which is a nice change of pace from the heavy bag. (The light double end bag is the small inflatable that has two bungees holding it at about chest level and reverberates like mad when you hit it.)It will occasionally smack the center support, which makes a lot of noise, but otherwise has no ill effects.

The speed bag platform is a bit flimsy, especially on the earlier versions of this model where the "drum" or rebound board is two pieces (the latest versions of this model use a single piece drum). If you become moderately proficient at the speed bag in any amount of time you'll outgrow this aspect of the unit. Part of the problem is that the single vertical pole to which the speedbag drum attaches will flex when you get the bag moving really fast, and that can throw off your timing. Use the smallest size speed bag possible to minimize this inertia. Lastly, the speed bag platform doesn't really adjust high enough for people over 6'2" in height, and if you're over 6'1" or so you're going to need to use a small or xtra small speed bag to have it hang at the correct height (i.e. belly of bag at mouth/chin level).

Century Wavemaster II Review

Century Wavemaster IIThis was just what I was looking for for at home workouts.I am only 5'3" and 115lbs.With the base filled with sand, it barely moves when I kick it.A larger person would probably have much more trouble with movement.

Century Wavemaster XXL Training Bag Review

Century Wavemaster XXL Training BagIf your options are limited.

There's no replacement for a high quality banana bag but if you have no place to hang one or fear knocking the beams down from the ceiling in the garage, this is a really great option.

The bag itself is relatively light & a bit softer than I'd like it to be, but when the base is filled, it definitely stands up to whatever punishment you can dish at it. There is a bit of play (maybe an inch or so) which tends to loosen the more you kick or punch. (Though a quick twist of the bag on the base will eliminate the additional movement) That being said, here is a warning for you... If you like throwing elbows, either have a partner support the bag, or get in closer than you would a typical hanging bag. Reason being, if you stand too far out when you strike, the bag will move an inch or so away from you leaving a nice streak of skin from your now friction burned elbow. Knees are somewhat similar as well but without the burn. At the standard distance, you may as well throw knees at a curtain hanging in your hallway. In order to feel the bag, you'll need to get much closer which is a big awkward standing practically flush to the base. This could be detrimental to your training so it would be wise to grab a partner & hit the Thai pads so you get a little variation.

All in all, it does everything I need it to do. It tends to move all around the mats in my garage, even when completely filled but I don't really mind. Forces me to work the bag from all angles & whack it where I want it to go. I can practice all of my standard Muay Thai drills without a partner considering the fairly large surface area. Low kicks which you'd typically do w/ a partner holding a Leg Kick Pad, punches, elbows, knees, etc... Most importantly, I cannot kick it down. If you can kick this thing down, you should try out for the UFC or potentially as a Placekicker for the NFL. Better yet, go to the Lumberjack World Championships in Hayward, Wisconsin & blow away the competition by kicking trees down w/ your bare shins.

Suggestions: If they could build a non-slip base, eliminate the play & stiffen up the bag to simulate a heavy-bag feel, this would definitely be a true banana bag replacement...Regardless, there aren't any freestanding bags like this on the market & Amazon has the most competitive price with free shipping. Awesome...

Century The Original Wavemaster Freestanding Training Bag Review

Century The Original Wavemaster Freestanding Training BagI have owned this item for about 5 years and it is still going strong.I use it for about 20-45 mins/ day about 4-5 times per week.

Bare knuckle or with gloves.I primarily do boxing workouts but it has seen its fair share of kicks, knees and elbows and never seen a tear or a worn spot.

The padding is about 4" thick and beneath is a solid plastic ring that alows you to adjust the height. This is also what keeps it from getting worn spots like a regular punching bag.

I used to work out at a friends house who had a 40lb everlast hanging bag and after a few months we tore it and had to hold it together with duct tape, which made us all sticky after every workout.

You can fill the base with water or sand, i have never filled it up all the way, but its pretty stable. If you cant use a hose and have it inside i made a funnel by cutting the bottom off of a 2 liter coke bottle andrunning back and forth to the bath tub with milk jugs.

Great product for anyone not wanting to drill holes in their ceiling to hang a regular punching bag.
