Muay Thai Heavy Punching And Kicking Bag-unfilled (empty) Review

Muay Thai Heavy Punching And Kicking Bag-unfilledthis bag was the least expensive leather bag I found, it comes with the hanging chains and a swivel. The bag shipped the following business day via Fedex ground from NJ. In order to fill the bag I visited a local thrift store and asked for non salable clothes that would be sent to a shredder for recycling, I filled four contractor style garbage bags with clothes brought it home and laundered everything after that I cut the clothes into 4" strips and removed all buttons and zippers to prevent from damaging the bag. Finally I filled the bag by throwing a arm full of scraps at a time and pressing it down as tightly as possible with a broom stick, the filling process took about 3 hours and caused me to have three nice blisters.

Classic construction, retains shape, provides a very firm target for punching and kicking and gives very little swinging for movement, even from big time hitters. When properly filled it weighs approximately 110 lbs. If you fill it with scrap clothing and cotton material. If you use some other filler sand combination of materials it will weigh more or less. You decide what you want to fill it with for weight proportion. The bag hangs from your Ceiling and it's a whopping 72 inches tall X 13 inches round in all black leather materials.

Century Original Hydrocore Wave Bags Review

Century Original Hydrocore Wave BagsAfter going through a cheaper bag (all the sand and filling settled on the bottom making it dangerously solid) I went on the hunt for something else. I'm about 270, and I needed a big bag that could stand up to both punches and kicks. This seemed to fit the bill, but I never worked out on a water bag. I gambled and got this through Amazon (via Sportsmans guide). It's a VERY simple design, and I honestly can't see how it would ever break down. The "core" is a big heavy gauge plastic cylinder with a screw top; it's about the size of a small scuba tank. There is one layer of very dense uniform foam around this, and that's it. The cover is a little slick, but it too looks bombproof. Word to the wise: IF YOU GET A BAG LIKE THIS, DON'T FILL THE CORE TO THE VERY TIPPY TOP, WHEN YOU STRIKE THE BAG THE CORE COMPRESSES AND THE WATER HAS NO PLACE TO GO AND YOU COULD CONCEIVABLY CAUSE A RUPTURE. You only have to leave three inches or so to guarantee no problem. As far as working out on it, I like it. It is a little different from a traditional bag. Whereas a traditional bag feels more like "dead" weight, this bag has quite a bit of "life" to it. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but different. The best part of this bag is knowing that each impact is a little less jarring and virtually any spot you hit the bag (with the exception of the very top and very bottom) has uniform resistance. All in all, I expect this to be the last heavy bag I'll ever need to own, there will always be others in the gym though ;-) {{this review is for the 120lb XL, but the 80?lb L is identical in design}}

Century Wavemaster XXL Training Bag Review

Century Wavemaster XXL Training BagIf your options are limited.

There's no replacement for a high quality banana bag but if you have no place to hang one or fear knocking the beams down from the ceiling in the garage, this is a really great option.

The bag itself is relatively light & a bit softer than I'd like it to be, but when the base is filled, it definitely stands up to whatever punishment you can dish at it. There is a bit of play (maybe an inch or so) which tends to loosen the more you kick or punch. (Though a quick twist of the bag on the base will eliminate the additional movement) That being said, here is a warning for you... If you like throwing elbows, either have a partner support the bag, or get in closer than you would a typical hanging bag. Reason being, if you stand too far out when you strike, the bag will move an inch or so away from you leaving a nice streak of skin from your now friction burned elbow. Knees are somewhat similar as well but without the burn. At the standard distance, you may as well throw knees at a curtain hanging in your hallway. In order to feel the bag, you'll need to get much closer which is a big awkward standing practically flush to the base. This could be detrimental to your training so it would be wise to grab a partner & hit the Thai pads so you get a little variation.

All in all, it does everything I need it to do. It tends to move all around the mats in my garage, even when completely filled but I don't really mind. Forces me to work the bag from all angles & whack it where I want it to go. I can practice all of my standard Muay Thai drills without a partner considering the fairly large surface area. Low kicks which you'd typically do w/ a partner holding a Leg Kick Pad, punches, elbows, knees, etc... Most importantly, I cannot kick it down. If you can kick this thing down, you should try out for the UFC or potentially as a Placekicker for the NFL. Better yet, go to the Lumberjack World Championships in Hayward, Wisconsin & blow away the competition by kicking trees down w/ your bare shins.

Suggestions: If they could build a non-slip base, eliminate the play & stiffen up the bag to simulate a heavy-bag feel, this would definitely be a true banana bag replacement...Regardless, there aren't any freestanding bags like this on the market & Amazon has the most competitive price with free shipping. Awesome...
